Hankins, a native of North Carolina, became a member of Zeta through the Lambda Mu Chapter at East Carolina University (ECU) in 1991.
 
Hankins earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with a minor in Political Science from ECU. Post-graduation, she worked seven and a half years in the field of journalism.
 
She is the author of SBF Seeking and K-Rho: The Sweet Taste of Sisterhood. LaToya works for the State of North Carolina.
