Although the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Systems is one of the state’s richest, it still serves a significant number of at-risk students. These students have a variety of needs—financial, self-esteem, cognitive, etc. With this in mind, Blue Ribbon has created a comprehensive support program for such students. This program provides a variety of services to said population--mentoring, tutoring, advocacy, enrichment, leadership, training, and other pertinent support services. This year, Eta Phi Zeta and Blue Ribbon have partnered together for the second consecutive year to host an all-day retreat on March 7, 2015 for at-risk middle and high school girls in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School System. Forty such ladies attended this event and were exposed to the following topics:
Identifying signs of domestic violence
Coping with domestic violence
Coping with bullying
Practicing healthy sexual behaviors
Coping with mental health challenges
Needless to say, we hope that this even provided attendees with the skills needed to be successful in the future.
